Trees and climate
Planting trees are a great way to help mitigate climate change
The past 30 to 40 yrs global temperatures have risen. Those last 5 years, records were broken the one after the other. Scientists expect that forest fires will be more frequent and that insect pests will increase. Some forests could suffer from water shortage, affecting their functioning. In parts of the world like the Amazon, large areas of forests are being felled and burnt at a rapid rate for agriculture or cattle ranching purposes. However, trees are involved in shaping the climate and mitigating its changes. Forests and other woody vegetation are key players in regulating climates. Large scale deforestation thus directly induce climate change. To restore those degraded or destroyed forests with tree plantations is an excellent means of tackling climate change.
