20% of world’s population rely on forests for their basic needs.
1.6 billion people depend directly on the forests for their food (fruit, fish or other sources of protein) and domestic energy. We all need trees for their timber. We also need them to ensure a stable climate, and to protect our rivers and stocks of groundwater as well as soil fertility. Some medicines even come from trees and shrubs.
