Producing wood, trees are an effective carbon sink.
Carbon, present in the atmosphere as CO2, is a devastating greenhouse gas. The current increase in the amount of this gas in the atmosphere contribute to global warming. Among living organisms, trees have the amazing capacity to sequestrate atmospheric CO2 in the wood of their roots, branches and trunk. Dry wood is indeed half made of carbon. Each time a tree is planted, the amount of carbon present in the atmosphere is getting less, which helps mitigate climate change.
